This was always going to be a no-brainer. As one of the most powerful companies on the planet it made sense that Google would invest in VR related software. Ten years ago Google launched Google Earth giving users access to stunning images … now lucky HTC Vive users can immerse themselves into these images thanks to Google Earth VR.
As such a bunch of engineers and filmmakers have been working tirelessly on bringing Google Earth to life. Once you’ve plugged in your HTC Vive headset you’ll be able to fly around the planet and experience the environment and surroundings in virtual reality.
This is such a fantastic opportunity for all those who aren’t able (for whatever reason) to experience areas of the planet in person but still want to experience the beauty and majesty of planet Earth.
Experience your planet like never before
So how does it work? Well after you load it up and watch the spectacular intro sequence which takes you via NY and Tokyo through to Paris you are suspended in space. From here you can move around the planet at your pleasure. Thanks to a heap of satellite imagery and specialise camera equipment Google have obtained some stunning footage of planet Earth.
You navigate your way around the earth by flying around. The higher you the fly the faster your travel. Thankfully the developers have tried to minimise nausea by narrowing the field of view. Of course if acting as Superman isn’t your thing then you can just the menu system and pick the location you want to travel to. in addition there are some great guided tours which may uncover wonders you weren’t ever aware of.
This is a spectacular app that’s receiving hugely positive reviews on STEAM. Google Earth VR is a must download.
