The Guinness World Records publication has always had a special place. Sure, it comes out for Xmas and does the rounds but if you take time and read through it you’ll learn some truly stunning facts such as ‘the most people dressed as smurfs’ or ‘the largest collection of do-not-disturb signs’. Yes there are some bonkers people out there and thanks to Guinness they can now come to life courtesy of the new Guinness World Record augmented reality app.
You can download the app for free from either Google Play or iTunes (it does take over 200mb so make sure there is space). Once downloaded onto your smartphone what can you expect from this app? Well first lets just mention the fact its been downloaded over 1,000,000 times – pretty impressive. Not a record in itself but it does show its popularity. Important – you do need the 2015 edition of the book for the most recent update! Take a look on Ebay/ Amazon for some cheap versions but without it the app is useless. Once you’ve turned on the app simply start scanning the relevant pages and facts to see 2D flat images come to life on your screen, from dinosaurs and sharks to people of extreme height!
We’re glad to see Guinness World Records have made the effort to create an app and we hope other publishing houses follow their example. Overall its a fun AR app that will definitely impress friends and family.
