Over the next few months you’ll soon notice an ever increasing number of virtual reality sports games hitting the market. Why’s that? Well previously HTC VIVE was the only VR headset that had accurate VR controllers which really immersed a player into the world of sport. However with the release of Oculus Rift’s controller ‘Touch’ and Playstation VR’s controllers later this year this is going to change.
One of the newest VR games on the market and arguably the first virtual reality basketball game is Hoops VR. If you’re a fan of free-throw basketball and have a competitive edge then this is the game for you. Realistically created with accurate throwing physics it really does feel like you’re playing basketball. Important elements from the release of the ball to the velocity are all accurately translated into the mechanics of the game.

Of course if there was simply just one static net it may get a little dull. Thankfully though there the basketball hoops pop up dynamically meaning you must pay attention and focus in order to get a good score. For those who have never thrown a basketball in their life then you choose the beginner levels where the nets are wider. There’s also modes for playing against others online or with friends locally. Also look out for the different power bonus modes including a flaming ball mode and a paper air-plane mode.
Overall this is a great looking game and once you’re immersed into the environment and ‘bouncing’ the ball you do feel like you’re getting a work-out. Now’s your chance to really feel like an LA Laker.
